1950s Kitsch Backgammon Board, Green Velvet, Embroidered Gold Embellishments

A lovely example of a full-size, hand-made 'kitsch' backgammon board. It probably dates from the 1950s or 1960s (a period when kitsch was back in fashion in France) and it is in excellent overall condition. I have never seen another game quite like this one - it simply defines kitsch. It is a wooden-framed game, entirely covered in pale green velvet, with embroidered velvet and embossed velvet gold embellishments. The 'points' are outlined in gold and silver. This is a board that is simply crying out for a lover of kitsch. Dimensions (board open) : 60cms (23 1/2") X 51cms (2O"). The game is in excellent condition and shows little sign of wear. The closing press-studs both funtion perfectly. The large acrylic amber and butterscotch dice are original to the game - as is the doubling cube. The black and butterscotch playing pieces (or 'stones') measure 40mm (1 1/2") in diameter. They slide beautifully across the velvet playing surface. The two matching velvet dice cups complement the game wonderfully.
